ALL PICTURES WITH FUJI X-PRO1 AND FUJINON XF 60MM OR XF 35MM
It was one of these evenings that I wont´t ever forget. The TURIN BRAKES touched down in munich to play a gig at the ATOMIC CAFE in Munich. As they are one of my favorite bands I was very proud to get the opportunity to take pictures of the concert and the soundcheck. ENJOY!
For my recent job - a shooting at the Filmcasino Munich - I decided to take the Fuji X-Pro1 as my only camera. No DSLR back up, so I was a little nervous how the camera will perform. I knew that the conditions would be very challenging, so I only took my fast primes (the FUJINON XF 35mm 1.4 and the XF 60mm 2.4) with me. As the show begun, pretty soon it was clear that there was no chance to shoot much lower than ISO 2500. For this kind of job flash is no really a opportunity because it will ruin most of the low light atmosphere. So let´s have a look at the pictures. You must click on them to enlarge. One last word to focusing: Most of the pictures were taken using autofocus. And yes, sometimes it was hard to focus at all - especially with the XF 60mm. But the XF 35mm lens really was a joy to use (make sure you get the latest firmware for camera end lens!). Please feel free to write a comment (as always ;) - cheers Andreas

Not much more to say - it´s great when am company listens to it´s customers and takes care of a product which now is more than 2 years on the market. Thanks guys.

Now it`s time to show you some pictures from my recent trip to Portugal where I got the opportunity to test the new Fujinon 55-200 f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS lens. But first I want to tell you some background information to the journey. A good friend of mine, Nicole Kramm told me about the fun she had learning to surf. Every time she mentioned her adventures in the south of Portugal her eyes got that special look... So I remembered back the days (about 15 years ago) I was in the same situation. Heading down south, a surfboard on top of the car, looking for good waves in Italy or Portugal. Nicole´s tales about perfect lefts, glowing sundowns and the nice people down there made me dream. So I decided to pack my bags...
So where is the missing link between a rolling wave and the 55-200mm telephoto zoom lens? Neither of them is perfect! But some things are getting close! As Patrick La Roque mentioned in his review of the new XF23mm: "Damn, another winner" - this is also true for the XF 55-200mm zoom! I shot the most pictures on this journey with this lens. Not just because of it´s common range - no! It´s because the lens is really near perfection! It is very good for separating a subject from the background and gives a very pleasing bokeh. One of the things I like most about this lens is the color rendering. You are able to capture incredible sceneries of light. So you might ask about the autofocus? In my opinion absolutely adequate, especially after the last firmware update. If there is somebody out there who tells you you can´t shoot sport or action with the Fuji X-cameras - he is absolutely wrong or simply don´t know his camera! Yes the X-Pro1 is no D4 but either is a longboard made for all this radical new style turns. On the other hand, in some situations the shortboard simply will not catch any wave at all...So is one of this surfboards redundant? Each tool for it´s own purpose!
So for me the Fujinon XF 55-200mm is the perfect addition to 2 or 3 fixed focal length lenses like the XF 14mm and XF 35mm. It complemented the system. Back to surfing jargon: Out there are some guys who ride the biggest waves on the planet with tools they call "guns". For my trip to the south the X-Pro1 with the XF 55-200mm was my gun!
Till next time, more pictures from Portugal will follow!

FUJI X-PRO1 WITH FUJINON XF 55-200mm PORTRAITS AND B/W WITH X100
Hi erverybody out there.
These are some older pictures I shot with the Fujinon XF 55-200F3.5-4.8 R LM OIS. It was the first day with this lens and I went to the local sports field to do some testing. It was just before my trip to Portugal, so please stay tuned to the next post where I will tell you how the lens performs under real shooting conditions!
Bye for now!

This time I will post in English. Please forgive me if the sentence construction I use sounds a bit rough or something. It´s because of the lack of routine in the last few years.
If you want to shoot modern architecture in Munich, you have to go to the "BMW-Welt" (BMW-World). Located not far from the Olympic Park, you can take a beautiful walk through the park. By the way you can visit the Olympic Stadium, or the BMW-Museum. The BMW-World opened on October 17, 2007 and so far more than 10 million people visited the building.
For me it was another opportunity to test one of my FUJINON lenses - the XF 18-55mmF2.8-4 R LM OIS. Lately I tend to use my other Fuji-lenses more often. The main reason for that may be because I love the shallow focus I can get with the XF 35mm and XF 60mm. The XF 18-55 has a variable aperture from 2.8 to 4 so if you shoot on the long end of the lens, you may not be able to emphasize one part of the image over another in the amount you want it to do. But hey - this is what we call high level moaning! Aperture 4 is not bad at all. Some kit-lenses of this range got apertures from 3.5 to 5.6 so this lens is far away from being a kit-lens! It´s more like a excellent all round lens. So lets do a quick comparison to a lens I often use with my Nikon gear - the Nikkor 24-70 2.8. Yeah - F2.8 all the way through the zoom range is great - but...the Nikkor weighs 900 gram and is a really big lens. The lens hood is twice the size as the hole Fuji lens! On the wide end the Fuji is also aperture 2.8 and the results are...yes, lets talk about a comparison of a full frame lens and a APS-C size lens! No pixel peeping or something of that stuff. Just a quick look at how the lens performs in real life shooting.
The FUJINON does an excellent job! I think on the wide angle end and aperture 2.8 it is noticeable sharper- especially in the corners- as the Nikkor 24-70 2.8 on a full frame D800! The distortion throughout the zoom range is also very low and - by the way - you get OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) with the Fuji lens. Not bad for a lens in this price range! Any downsides? Not really - maybe the fiddly lens hood and lens cap. This is something Fuji should redesign for this lens.
So back to the shooting. I think this lens is perfect for architecture work where you don´t need a ultra wide angle lens but the flexibility of a zoom lens. This lens is also very good for street photography because it focuses silent and quickly.
So enjoy the pics and please write a comment!
Cheers!
Andreas

4 Juni-Bilder.

So friedlich, wie ein fromm Gewissen;
Wenn Weste seinen Spiegel küssen,
Des Ufers Blume fühlt es nicht;
Libellen zittern über ihn,
Blaugoldne Stäbchen und Karmin,
Und auf des Sonnenbildes Glanz
Die Wasserspinne führt den Tanz;
Schwertlilienkranz am Ufer steht
Und horcht des Schilfes Schlummerliede;
Ein lindes Säuseln kommt und geht,
Als flüstre's: Friede! Friede! Friede!

Bis dahin - enjoy the pics!
